WA: North west prepares for second cyclone
The second cyclone in as many weeks is approaching Western Australia's north-west, and is
expected to produce severe wind gusts in the area this afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning over cyclone GWENDA for coastal areas
between Port Hedland and Exmouth, including Robourne, Wickham, Karratha and Dampier.
Coming just 16 days after Cyclone VANCE devestated the north-west coastal towns of Exmouth
and Onslow, Cyclone GWENDA has been downgraded to a category four.
A bureau spokesman says it's impossible to predict whether the cyclone will cross the
coast, but winds of up to 100 km per hour are expected between Port Hedland and Mardie today.
Port Hedland State Emergency Services regional manager RUSSELL HAYES says he's taking every
precaution.
