Gym: Tampakos crowned lord of the rings

ATHENS, Aug 22 Reuters - Greece's Dimosthenis Tampakos flexed his bulging muscles and
rode a wave of national euphoria to claim the men's Olympics rings gold tonight.

The Greek managed to control the intense pressure heaped on him by the home fans to
give a near flawless exhibition of strength and stamina in the strongman's event.

Upon completing his dismount, he stood fists clenched by his side before hailing his
score of 9.862.

Bulgaria's Jordan Jovtchev was edged out for the silver with 9.850, while 1996 champion
Yuri Chechi completed an emotional comeback to the international stage and finished third.
