NSW: Union meets this morning to vote on NRMA strike
Members of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union are expected to meet this morning
as nearly 400 NRMA staff remain on strike.
Some 390 union members and roadside assistance officers have been off duty since Sunday
when the NRMA sent them home without pay.
The workers had refused to use their job allocation computers in their patrol vans
as part of their go slow industrial campaign.
The NRMA wants the union to lift a ban which prohibits them from employing contract
workers to complement the existing workforce.
Union official JOHN PARKIN says there have been reports the 12-month industrial dispute
is starting to compromise public safety.
He's warned of holiday road chaos in Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.
Mr PARKIN has also called on NRMA board chairman ROSS TURNBULL to put a stop to the
dispute, but Mr TURNBULL has refused to intervene.
