NSW: DOCS needs to communicate better - NSW oppn

The New South Wales opposition says the state's child protection agency needs to communicate
better with schools, police and other government departments to improve its record.

State Ombudsman BRUCE BARBOUR released a report yesterday looking at the deaths of
161 children and young people between 2002 and 2003.

In 103 cases, the childrens' risk of harm had been reported to the Department of Community
Services in the three years before their deaths.

Opposition community services spokesman JOHN RYAN has told ABC radio that better communication
will lead to better intervention.
